Kayaking On The Sea

Dad booked us in for sea kayaking today, starting at 10:00am, so we headed right out after breakfast. The kayaking registration building was about a five minute walk away and then we spent the next forty minutes going over safety and paperwork. It took us about fifteen more minutes to get all our equipment out and into the water, at which point our two hours of kayaking began. Isaac and Dad had a double kayak because Isaac was too young for his own, and Mum and I each had individual ones. We set off out of the

Harbour, towards Seal Island where all the pregnant seals were resting in preparation for the birth of their pups in a couple of weeks. It was pretty easy to move the kayaks through the water. Sea kayaks have rudders in the back but I found that mine was increasing drag and it never allowed

me to go straight, so I brought my rudder up after a while. It was really fun. We got to see a few seals, one of whom was very sleepy, very pregnant, and very upset at us for disturbing her slumber. We managed to keep ourselves from scraping the rocks, but we had some close calls. We turned around after an hour but we were faster going back in, and took up the rest of our time paddling the other way. We saw a sea otter during our last little bit there. They’re so cute. We headed back into the dock once our two hours was up and handed all our equipment back in. It was lunch time by that point

and all of us were hungry so we walked back to the trailer for some food. After lunch we headed downtown so Isaac could look in a few of the comic book stores they had. We also walked through Chinatown and down Mary Tan Alley before hopping back in the truck and heading for the University of Victoria to have a look around the campus. It’s very treed and very large, a

really pretty campus. We then continued on to Beacon Hill Park, which was Mum’s choice, and we took some time to walk around there. It was a very pretty park, with lots of greenery and peacocks roaming around everywhere. We spent some time there and then headed back to the trailer, stopping once along the way to get a picture at Mile 0 of the Trans-Canada highway. When we got back we ate and then settled in for the nights. Peace out m8s.
