At Land's End

Today’s destination was Mum’s personal choice : Land’s End Park. The park is run by the National Park Service and runs along the coast. I took us a while to find it, and a little bit longer to find parking, but Dad eventually stopped the truck and we all got out. We followed the main trail, which is along the edge of a cliff that overlooks the ocean. There were some really good views of the Golden Gate from the path as we walked along, and we took some good pictures. Well I took great pictures, cause my photography skills are unmatchable, obviously. We hiked in the direction of the Sutro Baths first, heading away from the city. The baths were developed by the businessman Adolph Surto near the end of the 19th century. Since the bay itself is too cold to swim in, Sutro opened

a hotel, and indoor salt water baths to try and attract tourists. A rail line was built to the area and was used for access and for maintenance. The baths closed down in the ’60’s because of the cost of operation and a little while later someone burned it all down. We stopped at the ruins for a bathroom break, took some pictures, and then turned right around to head back the way we came. On the other end of the trail was Eagle Point, which was supposed to offer really good views of the bridge. It didn’t take us long to get to the other side, but it was much windier over there and there were quite a few stairs

that we had to climb. I almost had my hat blown off the side of the cliff and into the water. We didn’t stop long at Eagle Point since we were all getting hungry and we wanted some lunch. We drove over to Golden Gate Park to find food, since there was nothing in Land’s End. Golden Gate Park is an inner-city park that takes up a pretty good chunk of land. It’s no Fish Creek, but it’s really big, especially for the States. We found a deli a couple blocks from the park and got some falafels for to go before heading out to try and find a picnic table. You would think that it wouldn’t be that hard to find a bench or a table in a massive

park, wouldn’t you? It took us half-an-hour. I was so hungry I had almost finished my lunch by the time we found a place to sit. I was hoping to explore more of the park after I finished eating, but we were all a little tired of walking so we drove through it instead. It was very nice, really green with lots of big trees. We had a small supper back at the trailer and then settled down to watch the movie Splash. Apparently it was part of the dawn of mermaid movies. It was pretty cute and I love Tom Hanks, so I liked it. Peace out m8s.
