Sonya’s Blog - Day 291 - April 8th - Biking around Coeur d’Alene

We had planned to bike around Coeur d’Alene today, but first we needed to get some things accomplished. I had to finish up all of our bookings for the rest of our campgrounds. I had started some of the reservations and inquiries in Cranbrook, but I wanted to get the rest done so I don’t have to worry about it anymore. I was surprised by how many campgrounds I had to call to make my reservations, they did not have online booking. I prefer to do all my bookings online, but I mustered up the energy and called the campgrounds. I have even booked our ferry rides, over to Victoria from Port Angeles, Washington and then to Vancouver from Victoria. I completed all of my reservations, except for two that I am waiting for call backs on. Nice!

The kids were working on their schooling, while I was doing this and Blake was working on his resume and cover letters. The HR rep for Husky, that he has been dealing with, told him he should start looking outside of Husky for job opportunities. A little disappointing, but not unexpected. There are some jobs that are available, so Blake will throw his name in and see what happens.

After we had lunch, we got the bikes down and headed out towards the trail. There is a lovely trail that goes along the Spokane River and continues into town, when the river opens up to Lake Coeur d’Alene. We had to take the highway across the river, but then we were on the bike path, which was preferable.

It was a lovely, hot day and we biked as far as the path took us into the city. We then doubled back and stopped at a couple of spots and then finally the beach to test out the water. It was about 26 degrees by this time, so just a perfect day. The water was extremely cold still, but some people were swimming in it. Blake and Isaac just put their feet in, Natasha and I didn’t bother - it wasn’t that hot! It is such a pretty area along the lake, we quite enjoy this part of Coeur d’Alene.

When we were done at the beach, we headed back to the campsite. I snapped this picture, when we were directly across the river from our RV.

That is our RV in the centre of the photo, just across the river:

The view from our RV of the spot I took the above picture from:

Blake wanted to check out the floating restaurant, that was just down the street from our campground. We had been given some coupons for complimentary drinks and he wanted to cash in on that. We walked down to the restaurant and had a meal. It was truly a floating restaurant and was a bit of a Coeur d’Alene landmark. It had been there for years and survived two serious flooding years. It was a bit like being on an anchored boat. We each had a yummy supper and the restaurant didn’t move enough to make me feel sick, so that was a bonus.

The floating restaurant:

Natasha wanted to watch the movie Cry Baby when we got back, see Johnny Depp when he was young. The movie was pretty over the top and not the greatest, had some funny parts though.
