The City Of Portland

It’s Sunday, so you know what that means. If you guessed homework in the morning, you were correct. Congratulations, I’ll give you a gold star the next time we cross paths. Dad woke Isaac and I up at 8:00am so we could begin our studies. I got some

math and english done. A lovely new trick I’ve come up with for monitoring how much math I do is to work on my math for he entire duration of the Hamilton soundtrack before moving on to another subject. It seems to work quite well actually. Once we had completed enough homework for the day, Isaac helped pack a lunch so we could go into the city for the day. When we were driving downtown, it seemed to me that Portland resembled Seattle, what with all the double decker roadways and the buildings and such. It’s also a little bit sketchy like Seattle, with a big homelessness problem. However, Portland is not on the ocean like Seattle is and isn’t quite as big, but the resemblance was still there. When we got into town, we drove around for a while looking for a place to park and then got out to explore the riverfront as well as the nearby Sunday and Saturday markets. The Sunday market was the first we visited and it was full of booths, some with food, others with clothes and others with little trinkets made by local artisans. After we walked around the market for a little while, we stopped at a Polish food booth for some pirogies, sausages and latkes. While we ate, we watched one of the various performances they

had during the day, this one a country guy with his guitar. I mostly focussed on the street performer nearby though. He had covered himself in silver paint and was posing as a statue, but every time someone put money in his bucket, he would bring out four glass balls and do fancy tricks with them. It was a tad like watching some of Jareth’s tricks in Labyrinth. When we finished our traditional Polish meals, we headed across the street to the Saturday market where we spent some more time walking around and watching some of the street performances before going out to explore the city itself. There wasn’t much of interest to look at, so after a while Dad and Isaac opted to go back to the truck with the dog while Mum and I went to do some more shopping. During our walk, I tested some caramels which were very good but also just so happened to be very expensive, so we opted not to get any. We browsed for a little bit longer, stopped to buy some clothes at one of the booths (a skirt for Mum and a new sweater for me), and then headed back to join the boys at the truck. We had a late dinner back at the trailer before all going off to relax before bed. Peace out m8s.
