Sonya’s Blog - Day 292 - April 9th - Driving to Portland, Oregon

We have a long drive ahead of us today, almost 6 hours, so it will take us 8. We got all packed up and were on the road just after 9. I started out driving and I had no problems. I made Blake nervous pulling out of the campsite, but I didn’t hit anything, so that was good.

Coeur d’Alene is quite close to the Washington border and the city of Spokane. We were across the border in no time and soon driving past Spokane. Spokane is quite large, it took quite awhile to drive by the city. We have never been to Spokane, but it does look like it has a nice river valley area. After Spokane the drive is pretty boring, just farmer’s fields for miles and miles. I drove for just over 2 hours and then Blake took over for a couple of hours and then I drove the rest of the way to our campground. Once we crossed into Oregon the drive was prettier and we followed the Columbia River for a lot of it. It was super windy along the river, so we had to take it slower. Part of our bug guard had come loose and was flapping away in the wind, so we had to pull over and take it off. We figured it was safer to do that and not risk it flying off in the middle of the highway.

Our next campground is in Fairview, which is about 5 miles from Portland. It is a nice big campground and it is pretty quiet. There is a train that runs along the back of the campground, but it doesn’t blare its horn anywhere near to us, so that is good.

When we were unpacking the truck, Natasha grabbed the bag with the computer in it. The zipper was not done up on the pocket with the HP and it fell out onto the cement. When she opened it up, the screen is all cracked at the one edge and there is a crack down the centre of the screen. The computer still works. After supper, Blake and the kids ran out to Best Buy to see if anything could be done with it and if there was any warranty. There isn’t, so that stinks. Blake taped it up and they will look at other options, but at least it still works.
