Sin City

For our first and only day in the city of Las Vegas, we awoke at a good hour so we could drive the forty or so minutes over to Hoover Dam, since I wanted to see it and it was too late to stop there when we drove past the day before. We arrived at the dam at around 10:00am, only an hour after opening, and got right in. As it turns out, dogs aren’t allowed on the dam, nor in the parkade on the Nevada side. The dam spans the border between Arizona and Nevada, in case you didn’t know. We ended up having to drive over to the Arizona side parking, which saved us ten bucks, and Mum had to stay with Kizmet in the parking lot while the other three

of us walked along the dam. We all took turns rubbing the toes of the Winged Figures of the Republic, which is a creepy name for a statue if you ask me. I prefer the term “angel things”. Anyway, we all took turns rubbing the toes of the angel things for good luck, went to the gift shop to buy a couple things, and then hurried back across the dam to

Mum. On the other side, we got some pictures with the Welcome To Arizona sign, which took a while since Isaac was the one taking the picture. Then we drove a little ways and stopped to take some more pictures, now with the Welcome To Nevada sign. Isaac was very grateful that he didn’t have to take those pictures, which lessened his sulking somewhat. We drove back into town and dropped Kizzy off at the campsite before heading over to The Venetian for some lunch. Ironically enough, once we’d looked around the hotel, checking out all the

sights, we ended up choosing a Mexican restaurant. On a replica of a Venetian canal. Hmm. I ordered some shrimp and mussel stuff on rice. It was almost like a curry. After we finished eating, Mum took me over to a gift shop so I could buy a couple of keychains, including a tiny slot machine, which was awesome. By that time, it was 3:00pm, so we headed back to the trailer to let Kizmet out and feed her before we went back into the city. We had tickets to see the Michael Jackson Cirque de Soleil at 7:00pm, meaning that we had a few hours to check out some more hotels and find a place to eat before going over to get our seats. We ended up starting at the Aria, where Mum and Dad had

stayed last time they were there. They have this chocolate shop in the hotel, with a massive carving of a tree surrounded by small monkeys and covered in cherry blossoms made entirely out of chocolate and candy. We resolved to return later and get some desserts after the show. The second hotel we went to was New York, New York, possibly the most elaborate hotel of all time. It even has a freaking rollercoaster. I rest my case that Las Vegas is actually a theme park. On our way over to

Mandalay Bay, where the show was, we walked through the Luxor and the Excalibur, which are both very ornate from the outside, but not as nice on the inside. I felt that the interior of the Luxor was much nicer than the interior of the Excalibur. We then walked through Mandalay Bay’s casino, over to the ticket claim where we picked up four tickets for Michael Jackson’s One. The show was incredible, and I won’t spoil anything but there was some really intense dancing and this one guy with one leg was smoother than me, which made me reconsider my life. After the show, we walked over to the Bellagio to check out the water fountain show out front before we went back to the Aria, grabbed some gelato and went home for the night. Peace out m8s.
