Sonya’s Blog - Day 265 - March 13th - Spring Training

Casey is training for a 1/2 Marathon and she needed to do a 16 KM run this morning, as part of her training program. It gets pretty hot, pretty fast once the sun comes up. Casey decided that the best time to leave would be 6:30, so that she would be home by 8:30, before it got too hot. Blake and I decided to head out with her. I was pretty sure I wouldn’t be able to run very far, I have bad knees. Blake was going to give it a try and see how far he could go. Casey is on a program, of run for 10 minutes and walk for 1. I took Kizmet with me, since I knew I would only run about 3 KM or so. It was 9 degrees when we started, so a bit chilly. I made it for 2 intervals, about 2 1/2 KM and then I started to walk. It wasn’t even my knees that were bothering me, but my lower back. I had injured it, last year, and I can still feel it sometimes. I guess the impact of running was too much for it. Oh well. Blake and Casey kept going and I walked Kizmet a bit farther and then turned around and walked back. We had a good 5 KM to 6 KM run and walk, which we were perfectly happy with. I was back for about an hour and then Casey and Blake came back. Blake was pretty impressed he went the whole way, but was already feeling it. Casey was really happy with her run and that she has a route worked out, as she has to do the same distance next Sunday.

Blake, Cody, Natasha and Isaac are going to a Spring Training game today between the Oakland A’s and the Chicago Cubs. The game starts at 1 or so, so they need to leave by noon. They took off, right as Ella was going down for her nap. Casey also went for a nap, she was pretty tired from her run.

Cody and the kids at Spring Training:

That left Kizmet and I hanging out in the backyard, with me reading my book. I am half way through Songs in an Ordinary Time by Mary McGarry Morris. It is all about a small town and the various families that live in that town. It is pretty good, but some of the characters are frustrating!

When Ella woke up from her nap, Casey and I took her to the park. We thought we might go to the pool, but Ella was pretty insistent that the park was where she wanted to be. I took Kizmet and threw the ball for her, until Kizmet decided that she just wanted to explore on her own and not chase the ball. Ella had a grand time in the park with her Mum chasing after her.

When we got back to the house everyone was back from the baseball game. It had been a good game and the stands had been full, so they were happy with their afternoon. We had some drinks and nachos and then got going on supper, it will be a late one tonight.

After supper we hung out and showed off some of our pictures from our trip. We turned in a little early as everyone was tired.
