Sonya’s Blogs - Day 262 - March 10th - Driving to Apache Junction
We are driving to the Phoenix area today. Everybody says they are going to Phoenix, but a lot of people don’t actually stay in Phoenix. They stay in Scottsdale or Mesa. It is hard to tell where one begins and one ends, because they are all so close together, if you don’t pay attention to the signs on the road telling you which municipality you are in. Our campground is in Apache Junction, which is next to Mesa. We wanted to be close to Mesa because our friends Cody and Casey, as well as their 2 year old daughter Ella, are flying down to meet up with us. Cody’s mum has a beautiful house in Mesa, which is where we will be doing most of our hanging out for the next week.
We do not have a long drive ahead of us today, only 3 1/2 hours. We got all packed up, but as soon as we started lowering the jacks (in order to hook up to the truck), it was obvious we had another flat tire on the RV. I just want it noted that I pointed out this tire when we pulled into the campground, as it didn’t look like it was in the best shape. Ah well, now we do have to change it. So, after working for over an hour yesterday to put everything away, Blake had to pull everything back out again to change the tire. The advantage this time, was that we had lots of room and were not pulled over on the side of a busy highway, so it turned into a teaching lesson for the kids.
Due to it being a teaching lesson, it took a long time to get everything done. We were finally all hooked up and ready to pull out at 11:30. The day was already getting hot and was just going to get hotter as we drove towards Phoenix (high in Williams today 19, high in Mesa 31).
Our drive was pretty uneventful after that, we just had to stop once at a rest stop.
View of the mountains before we descended down, down, down to Phoenix:

When we got to our campground, set up was really easy and Blake and I headed over to the pool area. The kids didn’t feel like coming, so they worked on school and blogs. The day had reached it’s high, by this time (31), so the pool was nice. I just sat beside the pool, but it was till cooler over there. They also had a small hot tub, so I stuck my sore calves into it to try and loosen up the muscles.
Blake and I headed to the grocery store, after we were done at the pool. When we pulled into the parking lot, there was a horse and burro tied to a tree waiting for their owner. I am a little upset I didn’t get a picture of them, they were gone when we came back out.
Cactus at the parking lot, the burro and horse were tied up by red car in the background:

Once we were back, we started on supper and then had a lovely meal outside! It was just so nice out still, it is one of the things we love about this area. Nice all the time, very few bugs!
