Up And Down The Dunes

Our last day at the monument and we decided to finish it all off with the biggest hike we could find, that went all the way through the dunes and to the Alkali Flats. Shockingly, the hike was called the Alkali Flats Trail. We started hiking at around 11:00am, once we had gotten all packed up and made our way over to the dunes. It was all right at first, but the majority of it ended up being up and down the dunes. Up and down is hard by itself, but if you add sand to that equation, it just gets so much worse. We managed to tough it

out all the way there and all the way back, but it was quite exhausting. The flats are also just what their name promises; flat. It wasn’t all that great of a prize at the end, but it was quite the workout

and Kizzy had fun. Next time I decided to walk 8 kms through sand, though, I must remember to leave everything, including my shoes, at the beginning because it’s not worth hauling it up and down and up and down. And maybe next time Isaac won’t bring his Duffy-bear, so that it doesn’t get left behind on a dune and then has to be ran back for. Ah the joys. After we got back to the trailer and washed ourselves clean of sand, we relaxed a bit and then Dad put on the movie Lincoln, with Daniel Day Lewis, after supper. I thought it was really good, and that he did and incredible job. Plus Adam Driver was in it, so that didn’t hurt. Peace out m8s.
