Sonya’s Blog - Day 240 - February 17th - Fredericksburg
We decided to head of to Fredericksburg today. Quite a few people told us that it was a great place to visit and when we checked in, it was recommended again. It is a town that was started by German Immigrants, who then convinced more German immigrants to move there.
Fredericksburg is an hour and half drive from San Antonio and it wasn’t a very exciting drive. We parked right on main street when we got to the town and started walking around. There are a lot of shops and restaurants on the main street. We ducked into a few stores and then went and looked for something to eat for lunch. We found a German place with a patio, that allowed us to have Kizmet on the patio with us. We ordered up some schnitzel, sausages, red cabbage and sauerkraut. It was pretty good. The best part, it was outside, it was very nice (+28 or so) and we had a great table on the patio.

We continued to walk along main street after lunch. We wanted to check out their library, it was in the old court house building. It was very nice. We also read a few plaques about the history of the town.

We stopped in quite a few stores, our favourite was one that had a whole bunch of different peanut butters, honeys, jams and sauces (all that you were able to taste before you bought). The kids had a great time in that store and each picked something to buy. Isaac got the Strawberry Truffle Peanut Butter and Natasha got the Pecan Toffee Honey. I bought a Coconut Mango sauce for marinating and also Cherry Butter (like a thicker preserve, far less sugar than jams or preserves). Should all be yummy.
A cool paint job:

We went in a neat store with some cool stuff. They had a great shirt/jacket that was deep purple, but luckily it did not fit me because it was so expensive and I may have been tempted to buy it. When we had enough looking around, we hopped back in the truck for the trip back to San Antonio.
Old Hospital, now a shop:

We didn’t get back until after 6, so we whipped up some supper and then watched a show. That was it for our day.
