Sonya’s Blog - Day 243 - February 20th - Driving to Carlsbad, New Mexico
So, I was awoken early by people leaving the campground at 5 AM. They were talking and making noise, it was crazy. When I went to look at what time it was, I knocked the cream off of my shelf (which is above my head) and my hand cream came flying down onto my face. The plastic lid hit me on the side of my nose and cut me and it is a little swollen there now. Unfortunately, it is where the nose piece of my glasses sit! It is not ideal. I didn’t go back to sleep, perfect!
Kizmet's last stroll on the river pathway by our campground:

We got on the road at 8:30, thanks to my early rising. The kids and Blake went over to the kitchen and had all you can eat pancakes for $4, so it also helped that we didn’t have to do dishes. Natasha only had one, because they were so huge.
So Texas has a lot of this:

That pretty much sums up the drive. It was amazing! Oh sorry, boring and long. Lots and lots of oil wells and pumpjacks and some drilling still happening. It was amazing to see all the pumpjacks, more than I expected.
This is when we crossed over into New Mexico:

Do you think they need a new sign?
The landscape was exactly the same, but we only had an hour and a bit to go. It took us 9 hours in the end, we were exhausted. However, we gained an hour, as we crossed another time zone, so it wasn’t as late as we were expecting.
We vegged out for a bit, after setting up and then had some supper.
That’s it for us.
