Sonya’s Blog - Day 218 - January 26th - Moving to Carrabelle Beach

Packing up and moving day. We had a good head-start, thanks to all the work Natasha and I did last night. We still had quite a bit to do, but we should be able to get out at a reasonable hour. Kizmet knew something was up and kept trying to bolt for the truck and wouldn’t eat her breakfast. It was going to be over 5 hours of travel, so she would be pretty hungry if she didn’t eat. We finally managed to get her to eat, with a bit of bribery. I then took her on her final walk before the drive. I kept forgetting to snap a picture of my favourite plant in the campground, but I remembered to get it this morning. We are at Mill Creek Campground and the creek is flowing right behind this plant. It is so pretty with it’s pink leaves:

When I got back, it was time to back up the truck and get all hooked up. I put Kizmet in the truck, because she knew we were leaving and didn’t want to go back in the RV. I got my keys and went out to move the truck. Well when I opened the door I got quite a bit of a surprise. Blake had made smoothies for breakfast to go with the boiled eggs. All the glasses, except for one, have lids. Kizmet took this as an invitation to lap up the open smoothie and she managed to get it everywhere. Not sure what that dog does when she is lapping, but she is very messy. It was all over her, all over the front seats and console. Some was on the doors and the back seat, it was a disaster. I had to wipe down everything and clean up Kizmet, so this put us behind schedule a little bit. What a brat!

Hooking up the RV took a little bit of time as the RV was at an odd angle. We finally managed to get it done and pull out. The roads are a bit tight in this campground, but we just went quite slow and managed to make all our corners without any mishaps.

Our route is very direct today and we are mostly on major highways, which is always good. The drive went very well and we just had a couple of stops for bathroom breaks and fuel. We went through Tallahassee (the Capital of Florida). Well we really just saw the edge of Tallahassee, but it is probably the only glimpse we are going to get of it. It looked like a city. The last hour of our drive was down the Coastal Highway, so it was quite narrow and windier and took a little more time. We found our campground with no problems and it is right across the street from the public beach.

We decided to change our reservation from 7 nights to 2 nights. We can extend it if we need to, but we decided during the drive to see if we can head up to Memphis. It will be a long drive (9 hours), but we are almost directly below it and this will be our last opportunity to make the trip there. We looked up things to do in Carrabelle and there is not much, just the beautiful beach. We are going to try and book the Graceland Campground and make the trip up there.

Once we were all set up, we took Kizmet for a walk on the beach. Blake and I then ran to the store for a few supplies. Once we got back, Blake and Isaac headed to the pool. They did not stay long because it is not heated and it was very chilly. Isaac stayed back at the Rec Room because they had some puzzles and he wanted to start on one. When Blake got back to the RV, he and I headed back to the beach with Kizmet to try and catch the sunset. We were a bit late, but managed to get some decent pictures. Look at the beautiful sand:

Once we got back we started on supper. After supper Blake and the kids watched an episode of the Flash (as they have really good wifi at this campground, so we can use our Netflix again). I finished up my blogs for yesterday and today and started on the kids report cards as they are due to be submitted this week. Isaac asked me not to fail him! Funny kid.
