Sonya’s Blog - Day 209 - January 17th - Our last visit to the Atlantic Ocean

Windy day. So windy out. The first thing Blake and I did this morning was to drive out and try and catch the sunrise. We cannot see it from our campsite, as we are on the Gulf of Mexico. We need a clear shot of the Atlantic Ocean. There is a bridge a little ways up the road, so we thought we would try that spot.

It was a pretty good location, but there was a land mass that blocked our view of the sunrise. We still got some decent pictures, but my hair is crazy in them. We had a good morning walk on the walking bridge (I think this is the old railway bridge) and got to see the sunrise.

It was going to be very windy all day and it was coming off the Gulf of Mexico, so it was quite windy at our campground. The water was really rough as well.

We got the kids up and they started on their schoolwork. This was going to be mostly a working day today.

We could not get the wifi to work properly, possibly due to the wind storm so we decided to pack everything up and try and find an internet cafe. First we wanted to head to a beach and give Kizmet a walk.

There are a few beaches around that allow dogs, so we headed out to find one. They are all on the Atlantic side and we are hoping it won’t be as windy there. We found a spot at ?. It was a nice beach and not windy at all, look at how calm the water is. The sand was beautiful, unfortunately there was a lot of seaweed on the beach and it wasn’t a very wide beach. I walked in the water and it was quite warm. We walked down as far as we could go and then back again. This was our last visit to the Atlantic Ocean for our yearlong trip. Our next 3 stops, after Orlando, are on the Gulf of Mexico and then we are heading inland to New Mexico and Arizona.

We thought we would try out the same coffee shop that Blake and I visited on our first day in the keys. We forgot that it was Sunday though, and it was closed. There was another coffee shop in Marathon, but it was also closed on Sundays. We checked a few more and found one that was open, with internet access that wasn’t Dunkin’ Donuts (not a huge fan of Dunkin’ Donuts - their tea is crap and Blake doesn’t love their coffee and they use styrofoam cups). We found the cafe, but it wasn’t great. We all ordered a drink and a small bite to eat, I just had tea. They did have internet access, so Isaac was able to upload some blog posts. I left after my tea and walked up to the Publix to get some groceries. We were all done at the same time and we headed back to the RV.

The kids got back to their schoolwork and Blake and I started on supper. We had turkey and salad with cranberries and it was very tasty. After supper Blake, Isaac and I watched an episode of Corner Gas and Natasha worked on her homework and talked to her friends Felicity and Willow. We also did some packing up and Blake put everything away that was outside because it had all dried out. He hates packing it up wet, so he put it away in case it rains tonight.

We head to Orlando tomorrow. Isaac is pretty excited about it. I am sure Natasha is as well, she just doesn’t feel the need to exclaim every 10 minutes, or so, about it. It is good that he is so excited as we are doing this for them, it would be a shame if they were not excited at all.
