Sonya’s Blog - Day 207 - January 15th - Happy Birthday Natasha!!

It is Natasha’s 15th Birthday. Unfortunately it is still rainy, so we are limited as to what we can do today. Natasha wants to see the latest Kung Fu Panda movie, but it is not released until the end of the month. There is not much out there right now that we want to see. First we had a breakfast of Eggs Florentine and then Natasha opened her presents.

Natasha decided that we should go and see Daddy’s Home with Mark Wahlberg and Will Ferrell because it looked pretty funny. The theatre near us did not have any showings until the weekend, but if we drove up towards Key Largo then there was a theatre with 1 PM showings. The rain was not going to let up today, so we took off for the movie theatre.

It was very busy when we got to the theatre, but most people wanted to see The Revenant, which was already sold out. There were these two little, old ladies and they were so upset that The Revenant was sold out and they asked us what we were seeing. I told them and they asked me which movie to recommend. If you want to see The Revenant, nothing else that was playing was really in the same vein. There was Ride Along 2, Sisters, Star Wars and Daddy’s Home. They had driven a long way and wanted to see something and in the end they chose the same movie as us. Not really sure it would be their thing, hope they at least got a chuckle. We had no problem getting tickets for the one we wanted to see. We understood, when we got in the theatre, why the one movie was already sold out. They were tiny theatres. There were only 25 seats on each side and then some along the back wall. Right before the movie started, a family came in with their dog!! Had I known we could bring Kizmet to the movie… The dog was good for the film, but it was probably good we didn’t have our dog or they would have been trying to get to each other for the whole movie. The only issue, was the guy had to get up 3 times and take the dog out.

The movie was funny, but ridiculous. It delivered exactly what I expected it to deliver. We all had a good laugh, so that was all that mattered.

When we got out, it was still raining and it only got worse on the drive back to the RV. Their was thunder and lightening and at times the rain was very heavy and it was difficult to see. This huge lobster is on the side of the road by a souvenir shop - silly. When we were about 10 minutes from the RV my phone went crazy making an alarm sound as there was a tornado warning for southern Florida. We were to seek immediate shelter. Pretty sure my RV is going to be great shelter in a tornado, what could go wrong? The clouds did not look like funnel clouds where we were and when I looked at the warning it was for Miami and Southern Florida - that’s a pretty big area. We got back to the RV, right before it really started chucking it down in our area. Wow, did it ever pour rain. Pour Kizmet and Isaac were beside themselves with worry. Kizmet because of the loud rain and Isaac due to the tornado warning. He is terrified of tornado’s.

Just after 6 the rain had stopped and the skies were clearing up. I took Kizmet out for her walk. The campground was sopping wet, with large pools of water in many places. We had a nice stroll through the whole campground and when we got back we headed out for supper. Blake and the kids had caught some fish when they went fishing the other day. Someone told Blake that local restaurants will cook it up for you if you take it in. Sure enough when we got to The Island Fish Company and Tiki Bar they had BYOC (Bring your own catch) on the menu. They also had Dolphin on the menu, which I found horrifying. They cook it up any way you like it and you get a side with it, but it is a family sized side. We chose to get 1/3 blackened, 1/3 Francais and 1/3 pan fried. The whole meal was served family style, so we could just choose what we wanted. The guy told us it was only enough for 3, but it was enough for 4. We had also ordered the baked oysters and fish tacos and it was too much food. Ah well, leftovers for tomorrow. They did a great job with the fish and everything was tasty. We then ordered Key Lime Pie, one regular and one deep fried. They make it in house, so we gave it a go as you have to have Key Lime Pie while you are in the keys. Isaac loved the deep fried, but I did not. I didn’t really like the Key Lime Pie, it was more like a cheesecake really. I thought it would be more like Lemon Meringue Pie, but it is not. It is traditionally made with condensed milk, which of course explains the thicker, creamier texture. Natasha lthought the pie was ok, but she didn’t like the fried one - only Isaac liked that one.

After supper we went back to the RV and just chillaxed for the rest of the night. Natasha texted her friends and got all her birthday wishes and Blake, Isaac and I watched an episode of Corner Gas.
