The Wild Coquina In It's Natural Habitat

Wow so Isaac has informed me that today is, in fact, our

200th day on the road. Quite a ways in if I do say so myself. Also, happy birthday to David Bowie, thanks for being awesome for so many years. Dad had said that we would go take an airboat tour in the Florida Everglades to see some gators, but the weather wasn’t the greatest and gators are most active in the sun, so we postponed it until tomorrow. We got over to the Blowing Rocks Preserve today, just for a quick look since we had Kizzy with us. There is lots of limestone on the shore, which is actually what coquina looks like in it’s natural state. Coquina was a popular building material during the

1700s and 1800s. Lots of St. Augustine is built out of coquina, including the fort. It’s now illegal to mine it. It was fun to walk along there for a while, but I did get splashed a couple of times when the waves crashed down on the rocks. Once we had finished our little look, we hopped back in the car and drove over to Palm Beach and The Breakers hotel, built by Henry Flagler, the same man who built the Ponce de Leon hotel in St. Augustine. We walked around the hotel to see it’s splendour, with it’s cheapest rooms at 800$ a night. No thanks. It’s right on the beach, so we walked down there with Kizzy and I waded in the water, since it’s really warm. We also discovered a small farmer’s market around the side of the hotel, which is something that is done for the residents in the area. They had lots of fresh produce, so we bought some things, including a cookie for Isaac and I to share. After we popped into the lobby to use the ridiculously fancy washrooms, we got back in the car for the drive back. After dinner at the trailer, we played a game of Forbidden Island. It’s a team game and requires us all to collaborate in order to win. We ended up taking too long to finish and we lost. It’s only the second time we have lost though, so it’s not too bad. Peace out m8s.
