Sonya’s Blog - Day 182 - December 21st - We were Awoken by the Force

Blake had bought tickets to see Star Wars today at 1 PM. We were hoping it wouldn’t be too crazy busy, as it is a Monday in the middle of the day. Blake wanted to see it in IMAX and the only problem was that we didn’t get to pick our seats when we bought the tickets. So we wanted to go early to make sure that we were in line pretty early.

I had decided to make a Shepherd’s Pie because the boys have been begging for it. I could go without, but they love it. I wanted to put it in the crockpot while we were at the movie so we could eat when we got home. Blake and I got up and went to the grocery store first thing this morning. When we got back, Blake made breakfast outside (in the outdoor kitchen) and I prepped supper inside. Isaac took Kizmet around the campground a few times since we would be leaving her in the RV. After we were all fed and supper was cooking in the crockpot we left for the movie. Kizmet really thought she was coming and was very stubborn about going back in the RV, the little stinker.

The theatre was about a 1/2 hour away in the city of Pooler. It is just bordering the city of Savannah, but it is where all the outlet stores and discount stores are. We found the theatre and luckily there were no swarming crowds already lined up. We were there very early, just after 11 and the movie didn’t start until 1, so we had lots of time. The IMAX theatre wasn’t open yet, but Blake was told where we could line up until they opened it. They would probably open it up at about noon. There was only one guy in line, but they didn’t want to leave and come back to a long line-up. Better safe than sorry! Natasha and I went and did a little Christmas shopping for a 1/2 hour and when we got back the theatre was open and Blake and Isaac already had their seats. They had chosen seats quite close to the front, which doesn’t work for me in an IMAX. I get too dizzy if I sit too close to the screen. Natasha likes to sit at the back, so the boys stayed in their seats and we went to sit in the very back row. I liked this plan, because then I knew nobody could kick my seat. I always have someone behind me that kicks my seat, it drives me crazy. As it turned out, we needn’t have been concerned about getting to the theatre so early. The theatre was full, but not jam packed. There were still quite a few empty seats. Oh well, after the reports we had read about line-ups we didn’t want to take any chances. There were a couple of guys sitting behind Blake and Isaac and this was their third time seeing the movie. I thought that was a bit crazy.

Natasha and I entertained ourselves for the first 20 minutes and then they started up all the quizzes and stuff that they do now. Before long it was time for the trailers and the movie. Now, I am not going to put any spoilers in here as I don’t think that is fair. There is enough of that on the internet if you want the movie spoiled before you go see it. Now, our crowd was super excited to see this movie. As soon as it started, the same way they all do, the crowd burst into cheers and applause. When Han Solo and Chewy come on the scene the crowd burst into cheers and applause again. They did this with all the old favourites and then applauded the movie at the end as well. It was pretty great. We stayed all the way to the end of the movie, til all the credits were done. So this is my only Spoiler, don’t bother, there are no extra scens after the credits.

The movie was really good and we all enjoyed it. He pays just enough homage to the old movies, while establishing a good storyline for this series. We all thought that it really had the feel of the original 3 movies, which is what we were hoping for.

When we left the theatre, we were sure happy that we had chosen the 1 PM show. There was a huge line-up for the 4 PM show, all the way through the theatre and out the door. We had chosen well!

We got back to the campground around 4:30 and took Kizmet on a nice long walk. I had ordered some books from Amazon, for Isaac’s Christmas present, and they had arrived. Blake and Isaac played some lacrosse and then Blake and Isaac challenged me to a game of badminton. They only have a beach volleyball court, but the campground has some badminton rackets and birdies available there to play. I had to give Isaac a few lessons on serving and by the end of the game, his serve has improved a ton. He gets really excited when the birdie comes towards him and likes to jump while wildly swinging the racket, but in the end he had improved quite a bit. We then had a short game, but I played Blake’s weak backhand and won the game 5-3. My backhand is weak as well, but they didn’t play it as much. I am sure they will next time (well Blake). Natasha had gone to the clubhouse to practice piano, because they had one there. When we went to collect her, though, she was texting away on her ipad with her friend in Victoria. Not sure if any piano playing happened.

We went back to the RV after our game and had supper. Isaac then finished decorating the gingerbread house and put lights on the Christmas tree that they bought yesterday. Here is our festive RV:
