Sonya’s Blog - Day 180 - December 19th - A Chilly Day
So we have a couple of days that are going to be chillier, there is only a high of 13 today. The temperature dipped down to 4 over night (my temp’s are always in Celcius) and we had to turn on the heat this morning. Today will be the chilliest day and tonight it is supposed to go down to 1 and then it starts to warm up again. By Christmas the projected high is 26. As a result I had a hard time leaving the cosiness of my bed this morning and we had an extremely slow start to our day.
Blake found a listing of upcoming shows and concerts in Savannah and discovered that there will be a Christmas Concert in the Savannah Mall at 3 PM today, so we thought we would go and check that out. The mall is only 20 minutes from us, so we will head over there after lunch. They also have a 50 foot tall Christmas tree with 1/2 million lights, well that’s what they advertised. Isaac is desperate to check that out!
Blake got Isaac set up with doing some school work, since it was pretty cold to go outside still. Isaac whined and complained about it being Saturday, but he has had plenty of weekdays where he has done nothing or very little. Natasha was already busy doing some work.
After lunch we got in the car and headed to the mall. We thought we would check out the concert and then go into Savannah and walk around a bit, so we took Kizmet with us. Blake had looked up the directions and thought he knew exactly where he was going. Well he missed the turn onto the interstate, which is like the first turn and we ended up touring around a neighbourhood for a bit. I looked it up on my phone and we found our way there with just a little detour.
It is a large mall and we were able to find a nice spot in the shade for Kizmet. There was a very cool breeze, so the car was not hot at all. We went in the mall and wandered around for a bit. First we found the tree and I snapped a picture with Blake and Isaac. You can see the train that goes around the tree, but Isaac did not want to ride in it!! Shocking, I know. It would have been pretty amusing if we could have got him to go on it.

Isaac went in a gaming store and Natasha went in a few stores as well. We found the stage area and grabbed some seats for the upcoming show. Well, 3 PM came and went and they still had not started, but there were lots of people around waiting for the show to start. We decided to give it till 3:30 and leave if it hadn’t started. The show finally started at 3:25 and it was not a professional production, it was a school or church production. It was not very well organized or well done. The kids tried hard and everything, but they obviously had not practiced very much. It was not at all what we were expecting because it was listed alongside professional theatre productions, but oh well. We stuck it out for 20 minutes or so and then left.
We were going to go into Historic Savannah, but it was 1/2 hour away and it would only give us about 1/2 hour of daylight to walk around. We decided to just go back to the campsite and make sure we went into Savannah tomorrow.
When we got back we had supper and then the kids put together a gingerbread house and started decorating it. They worked on it in shifts because they fight too much when they work together!
