Sonya’s Blog - Day 179 - December 18th - Driving to Savannah, Georgia

Well it poured rain last night, just dumped it down. I got up three times during the night. Once, to close roof vents that we had left open. I closed them just in time. They will leak if the rain comes down too fast and I closed them about 15 minutes before the torrential downpour started. I then had to get up to check on some windows that were left open. I wanted them left open because it was really hot and muggy and the breeze was nice and cool. They were fine and not leaking, so I left them. The third time I had to close the awning outside. The wind really picked up, which makes the awning shake and it bangs against the side of the RV. It is very loud and if it gets too windy, well then, your whole awning can rip off. I would rather get up and bring it in. This was about 2:30 in the morning and I was finally able to get some sleep after that.

So I was all chipper and wide awake when I got up this morning. I really am at my best when I haven’t slept well:) We just got right to work, getting breakfast and then starting on packing up the RV. When Blake went outside, it was like our campsite had turned into a swamp, well the whole campground really. The fire pit area, was a small pond and there was still a chair over there that Blake had to drag out. The ground was extremely wet on the one side of the trailer where all the connections are, Blake’s shoes were soaking wet. At least it had stopped raining by this time, that was a small bonus. We were all packed up and ready to go by 10, but then we had to spend about 1/2 hour mapping out the best route, it wasn’t straight forward. We finally figured it out and got on our way.

We did a good job mapping out our route and had an easy drive to Savannah. Most of the drive was in South Carolina actually. Once you cross the border into Georgia, you are almost in the Savannah area. Our campground was easy to find.

We got all checked in and headed to our campsite, but someone was already in that site. Blake headed back over to the office and got everything cleared up. The guy was supposed to move his trailer to a different spot this morning, but there was some mis-communication. We had to go in this one particular spot, because our rig was so big and it was the only one available for the whole time we were here. He was on his way back to the campground and would move it right away. We headed over to the clubhouse to have our lunch. The clubhouse was nice, with a large TV. Blake turned on the TV and the original Muppet Movie was playing on the television. We watched some of that while we had our lunch. When we were done our lunch, the guy had moved his trailer so we went to put ours in our spot.

We got all set up and then Blake and I headed to the store to do some grocery shopping. I set the kids up with their Civil War and Slavery worksheets. I told Isaac he had to have at least one of them completed before we got back. If he is not given specific goals and deadlines, he will goof off and wonder why we are unhappy with him. The store was pretty uneventful, but we got some groceries. Always nice to have stuff to eat. Isaac asked to have Cobb Salad for supper, so we bought all the ingredients for that.

When we got back, Isaac had finished almost all the questions on both worksheets. He was confused about a couple of the questions, so I had to clarify what I was looking for. Otherwise, he did a good job. Natasha is almost done hers as well. Blake and I put away the groceries and then started on supper while the kids finished up their work. We had to cook bacon for the salad, so Blake went outside to do this as it makes too much of a mess inside. He snapped these great sunset photos while he was out there:

Supper was super tasty and everyone enjoyed it. After supper I did the dishes and Blake called his younger brother, James, to wish him a Happy Birthday. We all sang him Happy Birthday and then Blake and the kids took turns chatting to him. While they were talking, I washed up the dishes and whomever wasn’t on the phone helped to dry and put away. After they were done talking they started up Star Wars: Attack of the Clones. We go and see Star Wars: The Force Awakens on Monday, so they want to get all the movies in before we do this. Just this one and then Revenge of the Sith and they will be set.
