Sonya’s Blog - Day 172 - December 11th - Hanging Out

Well, not much going on today and no big plans. We really just want to hang out by the beach and around the campsite. Isaac is so excited about the pool and the arcade. Natasha is pretty excited about the arcade, but also the beach. I love the beach and that I can walk Kizmet on it forever and still not reach the end. Blake just likes to do everything listed above.

Natasha enjoying the warm weather and working hard at school. Pretty sweet classroom:

I decided that I wanted to read something enjoyable and funny because I have not read a really funny book in a long time. Unfortunately they are few and far between. I was so disappointed with my last book that I wanted something I knew I would like. I decided to read Rick Mercer’s book. I know he has several of them and this one is from a few years ago and it is a book of his best rants and articles from one of his seasons. I have had it for a couple of years and have only read a few of the rants, so I picked it up and started at the beginning. So funny, I was laughing a lot. Even though the politics are dated, it is still funny to read. Both Natasha and Isaac asked me if they could read it if it was so funny. Now I don’t know if they will find it as funny as I do, but it will still give them a chuckle and a lesson in Canadian politics to a certain extent. So good. I looked up some of his more recent rants from this season and Natasha and I watched some later in the day, it was worth a good chuckle.

Blake and I also took Kizmet on the beach for her longer walk. We decided to walk down to a pier that we can see in the distance. Isaac wanted to come and then started complaining about 20 minutes in that we were still walking. I told him we were going to the pier and he was very disgruntled about that. I guess he thought we were going on the beach to watch him goof around in the sand. We told him he could stay where he was and wait for our return, go back by himself or suck it up and continue on the walk. Now my son loves an audience and doing anything by himself does not appeal to him. He also does not like to walk long distances (it wasn’t even that far, maybe an hours walk each way). Oh the complaining and carrying on. Well, I am not the best parent or the most patient. He wanted to come with us and he has been on enough walks with me to know the pace that is set and that I just like to walk, no goofing around or slowing down needed. Lost my temper a little bit and told him to go talk to his Dad, I was fed up. He complained to his Dad, no sympathy there either and he hiked back to the RV by himself. I know this is wrong to say, but our walk was so much more pleasant after that. I just don’t love to listen to whining and complaining while I am enjoying a walk. A few minutes later Kizmet had a big dump on the beach and we had no doggy bags left in our little bag canister! This is all my fault because I am the one who walked her this morning and used the last one, then promptly forgot when I got back to the RV. Blake was pretty impressed. We made a little mound to mark the spot and went on the hunt for doggy bags. Some of the walkways onto the beach had bag canisters, so we just needed to find one of those. A little ways up the beach we found a baggy dispenser and grabbed a few bags. We were almost to the pier by this time, so we went to the pier, picture here:

We then started our walk back. We managed to find our mound and do our duty and pick up the doo doo from Kizmet. After we had picked that up, we felt less guilty and continued on our way. The weather was beautiful and it was a very lovely day for a walk.

Blake and the kids headed over to the arcade after lunch to play some games. I stayed back at the RV and read more of my book, which I then finished. Highly enjoyable and just the sort of thing I was looking for.

After supper Natasha and I decided that we would watch the original Footloose. Ahh, young Kevin Bacon. Sarah Jessica Parker is also in the movie as a supporting actress, forgot about that. Natasha had seen the new Footloose, so she was looking forward to seeing the older one. She liked it, but she likes the new one too. They are both good, hardly cinematic masterpieces, but enjoyable to watch.
