Sonya’s Blog - Day 160 - November 29th - Back to Virginia Beach and the Festival of Lights

This morning Blake had to empty out our front compartment. There is a strange smell coming from that area, so we want to make sure there is nothing dead in there. That took all of the morning and we found nothing dead. Still a strange smell though, so that is disheartening. The kids played around outside all morning and went and jumped in a pile of leaves.

There was a Christmas carnival at the beach, or something like that so we went to check it out. It was pretty pathetic, so we decided to just go to the beach instead. It was 15 today, but it was chilly on the beach as it was windy. We stayed for about 45 minutes and then went to find warm drinks. After our stop for some warm drinks we headed back to the RV.

It was too late for Simon to nap, so I just settled down with him for a quiet time instead. Simon watched a show while I finished my book, which had a strange ending. Really no happiness for anyone in that book.

We had an early supper and then left at just after 6 to go check out the Festival of Lights. This was a good time to go, because it was really dark by this time and there was no line up at all. We had Kate and Isaac in the truck with us, but Kate had a hard time seeing all the lights from her carseat. We were only going about 5 KM/Hr, so I put her on my lap to watch. There are lights set up all along the beach and the hotels that line the beach. It was probably a mile or so of the boardwalk that was set up with the light show. I thought the best displays were Santa and his reindeer flying off over the ocean. The lights were on the end of the pier and it looked like they were taking off. I also liked the 12 days of Christmas display, they had one display for each lyric of the song, starting with the Partridge in the Pear Tree and ending with Ten Drummers Drumming. Unfortunately, the pictures are not very good, but you get the idea:

Simon and Kate both fell asleep in the car and they were put straight to bed when we got back. Claire also went to bed shortly after we got back. Isaac put on How the Grinch Stole Christmas with Jim Carey and we all watched that. Isaac laughs all the way through that movie every time and tonight was no exception. He is funnier to watch than the movie sometimes.
