Sonya’s Blog - Day 159 - November 28th - Petting Zoo and Virginia Beach
It was going to be a nice day, so we wanted to do some outside stuff. It was decided that we would go to a petting zoo, back to the RV for lunch and Simon’s nap and then to the beach.
After breakfast we went to the petting zoo. It was the typical goats and one very grunty, vocal pig in the petting zoo area. They also had a walk through chicken area, which we did not venture into. There were various other pens and cages with other animals, like a couple of llama’s, more pigs, various birds, etc. The kids had fun feeding the goats and then going in and petting them. Simon liked to smush the poop under his feet, so that was fantastic.

Simon wanted to check out the tractor after the goats, he had fun driving that. Kate also wanted a turn on the tractor. We saw that they had blown up a bouncy house, so we walked over there. It was all blown up and open, so we put the kids in it, only to get in trouble. I guess it wasn’t open yet, because it wasn’t staked down. So the guy blew it up without staking it down, walked away without putting a sign on it and we were supposed to know this. Who blows up a bouncy house without staking it down first? So he was pleasant.
The kids went to the park instead and had fun there. We then looked at some of the other creatures and then headed back to the RV for lunch.

Simon was ready for his nap after lunch. We tried to get the girls to go for a nap as well because they were both quite fussy, but to no avail. Simon had a great nap, which he needed because he is so sick.
Off to the beach. Unfortunately, it was 3:30 before we left for the beach, which only gave us about an hour before the sun dropped down and it started to cool down. Everyone, except for Kate (she was upset because her Mum took off her tights and she wanted them left on), enjoyed the beach. We didn’t get any walking in, but I took off with Kizmet for a little walk and Isaac ran around with her as well.

We came back for supper and a campfire. While we were sitting around the campfire, there was a small parade in the campground. Lots of people bring golf carts to the campgrounds and they drive around in those instead of their cars. About a dozen people had decorated their golf carts and then paraded around the campground. They came right by our campsite.

There is a festival of lights along the boardwalk by the beach. They shut it down to pedestrian traffic starting at 5 PM and charge an admission for you to drive down the boardwalk and check out the display. At 7:30 we headed out to check it out. Well, it was very busy. It was lined up for about 15 blocks just to get on the boardwalk, so we drove back to the campground instead. We will try and see it tomorrow night instead and go a little earlier.
When we got back, I read some books to Simon while Suzanne got the girls ready for bed. When Simon went to bed, I read my book (The Mineral Palace). This is a story about a couple that moved to Pueblo, Colorado in 1934 from the east coast. They are a miserable couple, both unhappy in their marriage. Their baby is not thriving and the wife is worried, but the husband says it is all in her head and since he is a doctor she questions her judgement. The town is populated by many unsavoury characters that are manipulative and strange. Not really sure where the story is going at this point, but I am interested enough to read it until the end.
