Sonya’s Blog - Day 156 - November 25th - The Mockingjay, Part 2
Here is the thing about Virginia Beach, it has the largest concentration of military personnel outside of the Pentagon. There are more than 100,000 active duty military personnel here, representing every branch of the American Armed Forces. There have local Military Headquarters for: Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, NATO, Marine Corps and Navy. The Naval Air Station Oceana is what is near us and it is the Navy’s East Coast Master Jet Base. The good news is that the jets stop flying over or campground at about 10 PM and don’t start up again until about 10 AM.
Natasha is dying to see the new Mockingjay movie. I told her I would take her today if she wanted. She did want to. They had tons of showtimes at a movie theatre that was only 10 minutes away. We decided to try for the 3:30 show.
Blake wanted to go and check out the Farmer’s Market and we needed groceries, so Blake and I took off. The kids stayed behind to do their school work and to keep Kizmet company.
The Farmer’s Market was a permanent structure that has local businesses set up. There were a few vegetable stands, a creamery, butcher, bakery and some local crafts. Just across the street was an Amish Bake Shoppe and Furniture Store. We started with the vegetables and picked up some stuff for our Thanksgiving dinner tomorrow as we will celebrate with the Americans this year. While we were looking, the owners were unloading a truck that had just arrived from the fields with collard greens. These were the biggest bunches of collard greens I had every seen and they were $2.50 each. We had fun poking around and went into all the shops to check them out. On our way back to the truck we decided to pick up some collard greens, the lady was almost sold out already and lots of people were coming by to pick up their orders. They are a huge thing down here. The one lady told us to put them in our crockpot overnight with peppered hog jowls and they will be perfect. Where do you get peppered hog jowls? Blake asked. As it turned out it was at a butcher shop that was about 20 minutes away, so I will just find another recipe.

We then checked out the Amish shop. What a great furniture store, the most amazing pieces. I could spend a fortune there. Blake picked up some stuff at the bakery instead as we really cannot be buying furniture at this point.
We then drove to the grocery store to get the rest of the items that we needed and got back to camp with about an hour to spare before we needed to go to the movie. The movie Spectre (James Bond) was also playing at the same time so I thought the boys could go to that. Isaac cannot see The Hunger Games movies yet because he has not read the books. When we got back, it turned out that Isaac had goofed around the whole time and had not done any school work. No movie for him. Blake stayed back with him after dropping Tash and I off at the theatre. It was probably for the best because Blake is not feeling well and he would have coughed through the whole movie.
This was the fanciest movie theatre I had ever been too, check out the seats:

The movie was good and they did a good job of wrapping up the franchise. They stayed as true to the books as they could. They must have had quite a bit of filming done before Philip Seymour Hoffman died, because he was in quite a bit of the movie.
Blake picked us up after the movie and we went back to the RV for supper. It was pretty late by this time, so we just had supper and cleaned up and then called it a night.
