Sonya’s Blog - Day 155 - November 24th - RV Repair in Chesapeake
We had about a 45 minute drive to the RV Repair shop. Now there are RV places in Virginia Beach, but none of them sell Open Range. We wanted to go to a dealer that sold Open Range, because then if it is warranty work they will cover it. We had called several dealerships along our route, since our valves broke, but Chesapeake RV Solutions was the first one that would fit us in. They are also the first dealership that had good customer service and we really nice and polite to us on the phone. Several dealerships told us they didn’t have the time for such a big job, so we figured we would be without our RV all day, possibly overnight. We packed overnight bags, hooked up the RV and headed out by 8 AM.
We made it to the repair place by 9 and got all checked in. They were confident that the RV could be repaired in one day, which would be much better with us. They also told us they would work with Open Range to get it covered by warranty. Perfect. Blake was telling them about all the fighter jets that were flying over our RV and the guy said “that’s the sound of freedom”. It is now one of my favourite quotes.
We headed out for breakfast. I found a place called The Egg Bistro that had good reviews. I couldn’t believe how busy the place was on a Tuesday morning, but then I remembered that Thanksgiving is on Thursday and lots of people have the week off. We got a table and ordered up our breakfast. I got an egg dish that came with bacon wrapped asparagus, sounded yummy. The food was good and the service was excellent. My bacon wrapped asparagus was yummy, but super salty.

After breakfast we decided to go for a walk as we all needed exercise and Kizmet needed a walk. We chose the Chesapeake Arboretum, because it had good reviews and was dog friendly. It was a beautiful park with lovely pathways. Many of the trees were identified, so Isaac took a picture for his tree project. We had the whole park to ourselves, which was also a bonus. Isaac immediately picked up a large tree branch and a couple of sticks and wanted a hundred pictures in different spots with them. I am not sure what he as acting out during the walk, but it kept him moving and having fun.
After a long walk, we decided to head to a coffee shop or mall to set up the computer and get the kids to do some school work. They had been working in the truck, but it’s nice to set up at a table. Just as we got to the mall the RV shop called and our RV was all done and it was only 1 PM. We were shocked. We thought for sure we wouldn’t get it back until closer to 4 or 5 and that we would be driving back and setting up in the dark. We grabbed some coffees and drove back to the shop. The best news was yet to come, everything was covered by warranty except for a small portion. We had to pay $50 and we had braced ourselves for $1000 bill because all the places we had called told us what a large job it was. Blake was telling them how happy we were with their speed and the tech that did our work said “it’s just a couple of valves, no big deal”. Awesome. It’s so nice to get great service and no bullshit. If you are ever in the Virginia Beach/Chesapeake area and need RV repairs, Chesapeake RV Solutions is the place for you.
We were all hooked up and ready to go in about 1/2 hour. We thanked everyone and headed on our way. We were back at camp and set back up by 4 or so, which was awesome. We were all in a good mood, because everything went much better than we thought it would. We had some supper, explored the campground and hung out for the night.
