Sonya’s Blog - Day 144 - November 13th - Friday the 13th

We are moving to the Washington, D.C. area today. I found a campground that is about 30 minutes outside of Washington. Not so bad. It looks like we will have quite nice weather while we are there, so that will be nice.

We got all packed up and out of the campground by about 10:45. We only had a 2 to 21/2 hour drive, so we were not so concerned about getting out too early. Blake had remembered to fill up the truck last night, so we could drive straight through. The drive was all interstate, so it was easy driving. There were a lot of toll booths along the way, probably around 4 by the time we got to our destination and we paid $8 per toll. It can be pricey driving these US Highways. On the plus side, traffic was not too bad and we got to our campground just after 1.

It is a very large campground. We got all checked in and received a lot of information about Washington and the train system that will take us to where we want to be. We were assigned to a pull-thru site at first, but it was a shared area where the picnic tables were (with the neighbour site) and there was no fire pit. The neighbours had already staked one table and they were smokers, so it wasn’t going to work out for us. We went back in and were able to change our site to a back-in site. There are no shared areas in these sites, plus they have fire pits. This site is near the hot tub and games room, so that is an added bonus. We got all set up and had lunch.

I got to work on booking campsites in Florida. We had to call several different ones, but we finally managed to get bookings for the dates we wanted and in the areas we wanted to be. We have already booked Marathon in the Florida Keys, so we needed to stay on schedule with our other bookings. I now have everything booked until January 18th. We will come up the Gulf Coast side of Florida after we are done in Marathon, so I need to do some bookings there. I want to go to Crystal River because it is a popular spot for Manatees to winter. We may head to Tallahassee after that or just straight on to New Orleans. I need to look at the schedule and check dates to make sure we stay on track. We need to be in Arizona in mid-March as we have friends that are meeting us there. We will get it all figured out. Blake helped me with some of the bookings, mostly looking up campsites and helping to call for availability.

Blake and Isaac wanted to go to the hot tub. Blake grabbed some Washington reading material and went over there with Isaac. I finished up what I was doing and then went and joined them. Natasha joined us shortly after that. The hot tub was very hot and relaxing. It was decided that we would go to the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum tomorrow. It is going to be a bit cooler tomorrow, but then warm back up to the high teens.

We had some salmon for supper and then I got to work blogging and looking up activity sheets for the Air and Space Museum. Blake and the kids watched an episode of The Flash and then the kids went to bed.
