Sonya's Blog - Day 137 - November 6th - Driving to Philadelphia

We had a 5 1/2 hour drive ahead of us. It is actually only 5 hours, but we had to pick up our RV in Harrisburg which added a 1/2 hour to our trip. It was, of course, going to take us much longer than the 5 1/2 hours. I was hoping it wouldn't take longer than 7 hours, I was dreaming. I wanted to get out by 9 or 9:30, but I decided to do a load of laundry before we left. Well, this was a mistake. It took forever to dry and we didn't end up leaving until 10:30. I had put the laundry in at 7:30, but there were jeans in it and they just took a long time to dry. I played with Simon up in the toy room while I was waiting for it. We were all packed up, except for the laundry.

We finally got on the road, but it was 10:30. Traffic was pretty decent and we got on our highway pretty quickly and were on our way to Harrisburg. The highway we are on is a toll road, the 76, and they only take cash or personal cheques (seriously!). You take a ticket when you enter the highway. When you exit the highway, you hand the ticket in and pay for how long you have been on the highway for. When we were driving to Pittsburgh it cost us $23, which I gotta say made us do a double take. I thought that was super expensive. Today, we did the exact same distance (Pittsburgh to Harrisburg), in the exact same truck and this time it was $33. When we questioned the lady about the $10 difference, she was not very pleasant with us and said it was due to our weight class. There really wan't anything we could do about it, so we paid and headed on our way. We went and picked up our RV and luckily it was not raining. It was actually a beautiful day in Harrisburg and the campground looked great in the Fall. Our RV was exactly how we had left it, so that was a relief. We had left our bikes on the back, so I was a little worried about that, but they hadn't been touched. We all got out and unpacked the back of the truck and got it all hooked up. It took about a half hour and we were on the road again. It was already 2:30 and we still had over 2 hours to go. We had to get back on Highway 76, who knows how much it is going to cost this time with our RV in tow. We are not on it for as long, so hopefully we have enough cash left.

The drive went super slow. We were stuck in a lot of traffic and didn't do the posted speed limit for a lot of the drive. I was really hungry, we had no more food in the truck, so that makes me super impatient. When we got off Highway 76, it only cost us $17 more. We were only on it for about 100 KM's, still expensive. So $50 in toll roads today. It took forever, but we finally made it to the Timberlane Campground at 6:30 (8 hours of driving). This is the closest campground to Philadelphia, but it is actually in Clarksboro, New Jersey. Luckily set up went really quickly and we had supper cooking in no time. We didn't have a lot of choices for supper, but we managed to pull a small meal together. After supper, Isaac did the dishes and Blake and I ran to the grocery store for some groceries. We had to get a full load of groceries, because we had no fresh food. We put the food away and then it was time for bed.
