Sonya’s Blog - Day 128 - October 28th - Driving to Pittsburgh

We have a 6 hour drive ahead of us, but we also need to drop off the RV on the way. This will add another hour or 2 to our journey. It will be a long day. We have decided to park the RV in Harrisburg because it is almost a 1/2 way point between us and Pittsburgh now and Pittsburgh and Philadelphia (we are headed to Philly after Pittsburgh). They are only going to charge us $5 a day for storage, so it is a pretty good deal. We were actually trying to find somewhere to service our trailer, but we had no luck. Everyone is booking for about a month in advance, which is unfortunate. We are having valve problems on our septic unit, which is not good and we need to get it fixed. We have bought a temporary valve, but it is not the same.

It was raining when we left and there was the promise of rain for the whole day and all the way to Pittsburgh. We had some problems getting out of the area we were in and onto the interstate we needed. There was a tunnel on the first road we tried, that was not high enough for our RV. We had to turn around and we mapped out an alternate route. We were almost to the interstate when there was a trestle bridge we needed to go under. The first sign said it was 12”8” (not high enough for us) and then next sign said that the actual height was 13’7”, but then the sign on the bridge said 12’8”! We were at the bridge by this point, so I had to hop out of the truck and see if we would make it. It was pretty close, but we had a little bit of clearance. This was good, because we had about 20 cars behind us and we were holding them up.

Pretty non-eventful after that. We hit a traffic jam just before Harrisburg, because a tanker truck had lost it’s load. That added about 40 minutes to our day.

We parked our RV in Harrisburg and unloaded everything into the truck that we needed for the week. We also needed to empty out the fridge, because it will not run for the whole 9 days that we are going to be gone. It was pouring rain in Harrisburg, so this was not the most pleasant of tasks. We got it done quickly and then went for lunch in a little diner down the road:

Once we got on the road again, it was just driving and more driving to get to Pittsburgh. We finally made it just after 6 and there was quite the greeting party for us. Everyone was excited to be reunited. Bowser and Kizmet, however, were not so excited to meet and don’t really like each other. Ah, well! Can’t please everyone.
