Sonya's Blog - Day 106 - October 6th - Visiting with Aunt Marguerite and Genealogy

We decided to stay for another day, it would make it too rushed to visit Aunt Marguerite and try and get on the road. We had breakfast and then took off for our visit. When we got to the nursing home Aunt Marguerite was still in bed, she is not feeling great today. She still wanted to visit with us so we grabbed some chairs and gathered around. We had a nice visit and then we asked if she wanted to meet Kizmet. We had brought her with us because we saw that dogs were allowed in. Blake cleared it with the front desk and then went out and got Kizmet. She was a really good girl in in Aunt Marguerite’s room. She said hi and then lay down at my feet for the rest of the visit. When it was time to go we all said our good-bye's and Aunt Marguerite was sad to see us go. She said that it was the last time she would see us, but then I had to remind her that she has said that every time we have visited, in 1998 and then again in 2004, and she is still here. So she changed it to "until next time".

We had to do a couple of errands on the way back and Blake wanted to stop at the University again. Lise had mentioned that she had gone in and inquired about her families genealogy. There is a department at the University that will print off your Acadian families genealogy as long as you give them enough details (Grandparents name, etc). Blake thought it might be interesting to get his mother's genealogy done for her family (LeBlanc), so he went in to inquire about that. The kids and I stayed downstairs and visited the gift shop, the cafe and then went in the Museum again to learn a little more. We also took turns walking Kizmet around outside. When Blake was done we headed back to Mariette and Michel's.

Everyone was out when we got back, so the kids did some school and I did some laundry and tried to catch up on my blogging. Blake went back and forth to the University because they were still working on the genealogy. There was some confusion, so Blake was on the phone to his mum trying to figure out who was who. When Isaac was done his school I got him on the computer trying to catch up on his blogging. So far behind now!

I decided to take Kizmet out for a run in the back field while Isaac was working on his blog posts. It was a beautiful day and the sun was quite hot. I took her all the way across the field, she chased the Canada Geese out of the field and they made a ton of noise circling around and flying off to another resting spot. When we got to the end of the field, Kizmet and I scrambled down the short cliff to the beach below. It is a rocky beach so we had fun poking around and exploring. Kizmet likes to get in the water and dig up rocks. While we were down there another lady came up the beach and Kizmet went over to introduce herself. I followed and met Rochelle Buckley (may be misspelling this). She was very surprised to see me and asked where I came from and when I told her she asked if we were the ones with the trailer. Our huge rig is getting noticed sitting out in the driveway in this tight knit community, people are curious! We had a nice little chat and then continued on our own way.

When Michel, Mariette and Lise returned from Digby supper was started. We are having hamburgers, hotdogs and salad tonight. We also wanted to get some group pictures, so it was a busy time. I told the story of meeting Rochelle on the beach and found out more about her. She was in a wheelchair for 20 plus years and now she is walking around and explores the beach as often as she can looking for rocks, shells and seaglass. Amazing.

We had a fabulous supper and after everything was cleaned up we played the card game golf. Mariette plays a version of golf that is similar, so she knew how to play. Isaac talked Lise into playing with us, and Lise doesn't normally play cards. We gave her the basics and started the game. Well Lise had beginners luck because she beat all of us! It was a good game and we all had fun. Mariette makes a fabulous Coconut Cream Pie that we are all crazy for and while we were playing cards she wrote the recipe out for us. It is her Mum's recipe, so it is to be cherished always!

It is our last night in Belliveau Cove so we are a little sad. It has been fun visiting with everyone and having the kids learn about their Acadian ancestry. We need to move on though because we need to be in Pittsburgh for Halloween so the kids can go out trick or treating with their cousins. The other reason we need to be moving south is so that we don't get stuck in the snow and freezing temperatures.
