Sonya’s Blog - Day 97 - September 27th - The Lunar Eclipse
We decided to walk to downtown New Glasgow today to check it out. Uncle Fred came with us to show us the way. It was only about a 15 minute walk from their house and then it took about 10 minutes to walk up and down. It didn’t occur to us that everything would be closed, due to the fact that it is Sunday. When I got downtown and said, “oh, everything is closed”, Uncle Fred said “well, of course”! It was still a good walk and Kizmet enjoyed her time with all of us.

When we got back we decided to play Washer Toss as it had turned into a really nice day, just a little breezy. First Blake played Uncle Fred and lost in spectacular fashion. Then Isaac and Uncle Fred teamed up against Blake and Natasha (nobody wanted to be on Blake’s team, so they had to flip a coin and Natasha lost the toss). This time losing the toss worked out as Blake and Natasha won the game in the last toss. I then played Uncle Fred. I got some really lucky throws and won that game. I then had to take on Blake, who beat me. Blake then played Uncle Fred and lost 21 to zip!!! Uncle Fred was just getting warmed up in my game.
It was getting really windy out by this time so we headed inside and played a round of golf. Uncle Fred wanted to try it out again. This time Isaac joined the game so we had 5 playing. I happened to get really lucky hands and only ended up with about 15 points by the end and Uncle Fred did not get so lucky and lost the game. He was so sad:(
We decided to order pizza and were told that Sam’s Pizza has good pizza. I don’t love pizza, but luckily they have other items on their menu. I chose the Chicken Slouvaki dinner and everyone else wanted pizza. We ordered a few sides to go with our meal. We all dug in when they got back and had a fantastic meal. Everyone loved their pizza and my meal was delicious.

I had looked up the supermoon lunar eclipse details while the boys were out picking up the pizza. I was pretty excited to find out that we were going to get great views of the full eclipse from Nova Scotia. It was due to start at about 9:15 PM, but it was going to be a 5 hour eclipse so the full eclipse was not going to be until 11:47 PM. That is pretty late for us, we are not young like we used to be. Natasha said this would not be a problem for her, but it was going to be a problem for Isaac. He must be growing a lot because he is really tired lately. We decided to put him to bed and then wake him up when it was a full eclipse, or when we were ready to call it a night. We did pretty good, but were ready to go to bed around 11. The moon was starting to glow red around the edges, but it promised to be a blood moon at the full eclipse so we wanted to see that. We got Isaac up at around 11:30 because it was quite red and we were ready to call it a night. We got some pictures, but it is hard to see the moon. We had much better views, it didn’t look like it was that far away. It was very cool and we were very happy that we got to see it.
We got Isaac back to bed and he went back to sleep right away and we called it a night.
