Ah yes, a learning day! We must make haste to unlock the secrets of the wondrous universe! And study dead people! Into Charlottetown we go to Founders Hall to learn about the history of the confederation, which is, coincidentally, the topic I’m supposed to be studying this year in social. We left after I did math of course, but that didn’t take very long. Founder’s Hall was set up like a kind of audio tour, with certain spots along the way programmed with your head set to give you more information about the confederation. Apparently, the meeting in Charlottetown was originally just for the maritimes to talk about the union and the Canada’s invited themselves. No one was waiting for the representatives from the Canada’s, George Étienne-Cartier, George Brown and John A. MacDonald. It was interesting but most of the information was things I already knew. A few more interesting facts I found. There weren’t all that many really formal meetings, but there were a lot of luncheons and balls. Nova Scotia wanted to back out of the union 90 days after it was formed, but the motion failed. Newfoundland was at the meeting in Quebec City, but turned the Confederation down. Rupert’s Land, owned by the Hudson’s Bay Company and today is replaced by Alberta, Saskatchewan, Nunavut, Yukon and the North-West Territories, was sold to Canada for a significantly smaller amount of money than Alaska sold to the States, even though

there was nearly four times the amount of land in Rupert’s Land. There’s some stuff I didn’t know. After we got back out we decided to do a little walking tour, which was a search for the many statues of Eckhart the Mouse around Queen’s Street. Eckhart is the lead character from the book The True Meaning of Crumbfest, which was written by a local author. We found about four or five of the nine before stopping for some lunch at an oyster bar. The food was delicious. We ordered some boiled oysters to start, which were delicious and I had smoked meat samosas for my main meal. Mum and Dad both had chowder which was apparently the most fabulous chowder either of them had ever had. I found it quite delicious myself. For dessert we had Cow’s ice cream again, which was one of our stops on our Eckhart hunt, so it worked out quite well. I had Messie Bessie ice cream. We worked our way down the the wharf and managed to find all of the Eckharts so we went back to the car after stopping at the washroom. We drove back to the campsite and Dad challenged me to a game of ball toss. I proceeded to kick his butt. Then it was me against Isaac and he got all grumpy and gave up. Then Dad decided it was going to be best two out of three. He beat me at the second game and then I wrapped it all up in the end. Then I went over to the jumping pillow for a bit before deciding to go swimming. The pool was too cold for me so I went wading in the ocean instead. That might sound like a weird trade off, but I like the salt water better anyway. Peace out m8s.
