Sonya’s Blog - Day 74 - September 4th - Driving to PEI
It was pretty chilly this morning, so it was hard to get out of bed. We had a 3 1/2 hour drive ahead of us so we wanted to be on the road by 9ish, so I forced myself to get up and layer on the clothes. Everything went smoothly and we pulled out of the campsite at 9:15, pretty good for us.

The drive was pretty uneventful and there wasn’t much scenery, just trees. We wanted to fill up the truck before the bridge, but there really wasn’t much development and the one station we came across did not have diesel. Our truck was telling us we could make it to our destination, but just barely. According to the truck’s gage we had 7 KM more fuel than we had to travel, but that is cutting it a bit tight for us and we wanted to fill up when we had about 100 KM of fuel left.

We arrived at Confederation Bridge and were all set to pay, but then realized that you only pay when you leave the Island. So if we never leave, we never pay! I guess it is the same with the ferry service, you pay when you leave, we just did not remember this little tidbit. It will be about $60 for us to leave, which isn’t bad for a bridge that cost $1 Billion to build. It is the longest bridge in the world crossing ice-covered water, so we were pretty excited to be traveling along it. I will put some pictures of us crossing in this post.
We found diesel after about 5 minutes on the Island and continued on our way. Our destination is Cornwall, which is just next door to Charlottetown. We pulled into the wrong KOA at first, which is right near the bridge, but realized our mistake and continued on our way. I was happy that was not our campground as it was right off the highway and had hardly any trees. We found our campground about 1/2 hour later and it is a lovely campground. Our campsite is right on the water and we have lovely views.

We got all set up and then walked along the beach with Kizmet. She met two other dogs, one of which was an 8 month old Golden Retriever and had a great time running in and out of the water and playing chase. There are millions of Mussel shells along the beach and they crunch when you step on them. Blake got Kizmet to swim a few times by enticing her with a shell, her curiousity won out over her fear. She is a good little swimmer, very smooth, but she sure doesn't like it.

We then hopped in the truck and headed into Charlottetown to pick up our new TV and to get some groceries. We came back and had a yummy supper of turkey sliders. The wind was quite cold by this time and the temperature was dropping fast so I went and cocooned myself inside and read my book as I was sooo chilly. Blake and the kids stayed outside and enjoyed a fire. I started reading Armada by Ernest Cline, the author of Ready Player One.
Blake’s Uncle and Aunt, with their dog Pixie, are coming tomorrow for a visit. They are going to stay with us for a couple of days so I had better get to cleaning up in the morning.
