Sonya’s Blog - Day 71 - September 1st - Exploring Fredericton

Well the boys are sick, we have been in denial, but they both have colds. I wonder if it has anything to do with the ACDC concert, ummm? I am fine, of course, but I don’t get sick as often for whatever reason. Blake is trying his hardest to make sure I get his cold, by trying to snatch lots of kisses and getting attention, etc. So much work.

We let Isaac sleep in today, because he obviously needed it. They were super tired and didn’t get up until about 10:30 or so. I had been out with Kizmet and discovered that the TransCanada Trail is right behind our campsite and it goes into Fredericton and joins up with their Municipal Trails. It is only 5.9 KM to Fredericton and it was decided we would take the bikes in. Everyone was for it, except for Isaac. We got the bikes off the back of the RV and hit the trail. We didn’t have a ton of time because our truck was due for an oil change and we had it booked in at the Ford Dealership at 3:30. It gave us a couple of hours to wander around and have enough time to bike there and back. Luckily Fredericton is not very large, so we didn’t anticipate any problems.

This is what Blake looked like after we arrived in Fredericton, look at the black marks on his face. He looks crazy and the picture looks like a mug shot after a night of hard drinking! Oh my goodness, not the best picture he has ever had taken!

We looked in some cute shops, found a coffee shop and Natasha looked in 2 book stores. She would have looked in 3, but the used book store is closed on Tuesdays for Regeneration (that is what the closed sign said). We went and looked around the Historic Garrison District and were informed that they have free walking tours that leave from City Hall. We went to City Hall to find out about the tour, but it didn’t leave until 2:30 and that did not leave us enough time to get back to the campsite and to get our truck to the dealership. We will try and make it another day for the tour. Natasha still wanted to look at some more shops, so the boys headed back to the campsite and to get Kizmet and the truck, and Natasha and I stayed in Fredericton for another hour.

Blake texted me and said he was walking Kizmet in Oddell Park while the truck was in for service. It was a short bike ride to the park, but Natasha and I took a different path along the river and took too long to get there. We headed back to camp while the boys had fun in the park.

Once back at camp Natasha and I wanted to read our books and we had lots of peace and quiet because Isaac was out with Blake. I had laundry to do though, which wasn’t what I wanted to do. I got my laundry done, got my tea made and settled in outside for some reading and blogging. It was great.

The boys got back at 6 and volunteered to make supper, bonus! Although, it wasn’t nearly as quiet, it is so hard to read when Isaac comes up every few minutes to tell me some more random facts or stories. He doesn’t understand why I get so frustrated and Natasha just gets plain angry. Blake did make me another cup of tea, so that was great.

Isaac is so excited because he won all the money in our curse jar. Isaac started a curse jar last week, after watching an episode of Corner Gas on the subject. He is super strict about what a curse is, like he is a Puritan or something. I can't even say Darn it! That is a minor curse and will cost me a quarter. Unforgivable Curses are $1 and Major Curse (like Damn) are 50 cents. I know this will be a shock to everyone that knows me, but I lost. I actually have not had any Unforgivable Curses, well maybe one, but lots of minor because I keep substituting Darn It:) I had to argue for my right to say Goodness Gracious, we put it to a vote and it was decided it was not a curse. Shocking I know, but Isaac still thinks it should be considered one. Maybe if I speak I should just put money in the jar, if I can't even say Goodness Gracious.

We had a yummy supper and then we played the card game, Golf. We only played a few rounds and then it was time for Isaac to go to bed as it is the first day of school tomorrow. Whaaaat!! The kids have to get up at 7:30 now and they are super excited about it.

After the card game I finished my book. I am reading 26a by Diana Evans. It is about twin girls and their very dysfunctional family growing up in the 80's and 90's in England. The book is mostly about the identical twin girls and their trials and tribulations. I could relate to some of the stuff they went through, being that I am an identical twin, but not everything. It was a good read in the end, although I wasn't sure when I first started it. It is not really a happy book, kind of sad at the end.

Hope everyone is ready for September.

Sonya
