Sonya’s Blog - Day 68 - August 29th - Montmorency Falls and Ile d’Orléans

Today we had a sleep in day because of our late night last night. There were a couple of things we still wanted to do and two days left. I really wanted to go to the Montmorency Falls and to visit the Ile d’Orléans and Blake really wanted to visit the Citadel. We took a vote and decided that today would be a good day to do the waterfall and the Island and possibly a couple of smaller towns if we had time. We left around 11 and headed for the Falls, which were about a 1/2 hour away.

When we got there, you could take a Gondola to the top of the Falls or you could hike, there was a trail and there were stairs. We opted for the trail as it was only a 20 minute hike and we thought we would take the trail up and the stairs down for some variety and skip the Gondola all together as we had Kizmet and after doing the Gondola in Banff last year, we didn’t want to subject her to that terror again. The trail was quite steep, but we all managed to make it up, there was some complaining from Isaac, but alas, he made it as well. The Falls were nice and we saw that there was a suspension bridge, so we went to check it out. The bridge went right over the top of the falls. You could see that there were 4 stone pillars, 2 on each side of the Falls. This was from the original bridge that was build in the 1890’s and it only lasted 5 days before it fell into the falls, taking with it a few people. They built another bridge, which lasted a 100 years and then the current suspension bridge. The bridge stayed up for our trip across and back, so that was a huge bonus.

They also had zip lining and you could go across the falls, we did see some people that were all suited up to zip line, but we didn’t see them go across. They may have already gone and were on their way back down.

We had a good look around and then headed back down the stairs. When you got to the bottom you could go out on the platform and get sprayed or soaked by the spray from the waterfall. We got a few pictures. We also so the cutest little 10 week Husky puppy who’s name was Roo, she was so sweet. She really wanted to play with Kizmet.

After we were done at the Falls we drove over to the Ile d’Orléans, it was only about 10 minutes away. It is not a very big Island, but super quaint. We drove for a bit and then saw a very nice little restaurant, Le Moulin de St. Laurent, and stopped for a late lunch. They allowed us to have Kizmet on the patio with us. It was a very pretty location, with a waterfall and stream running right beside it. Very nice with very good food.

We continued on our way circling the Island. We stopped at this nice beach along the river to have a look around and let Kizmet have a run and a dip. We then continued on our way. There are a lot of farms and orchards along the Island. On one side there were a lot of Strawberry growers, but on the other side, there were mostly Apple Orchards and the fields of grains were in the centre of the Island. We loved it there. It was getting quite late so we decided to head back to camp.

We didn’t do much at camp, we were all pretty tired. I was busy trying to fix the problems we were having with our blog. I had been emailing back and forth with wix trying to solve the problems with our pictures uploading and also with the text being superimposed on top of our blog posts. I think I have them both fixed now, hopefully we can start uploading pictures again and getting caught up on our posts.
