L'Île D'Orléans

We had another waterfall to visit today; Les Chutes De Montmorency. The falls looked really familiar when we pulled up for some reason but I didn’t figure it out until we passed one of the audio tour points. They’re a whole bunch of mental plaques that obviously have some sort of circuit board in it that can connect to the audio tour headphones through bluetooth. The one I saw said the White Lady, which was a ghost story linked to the French V.S. British wars in the 18th century we’d studied in grade seven. My class had watched an animated video about it. A woman who lived in the French village that used to be on the banks of Les Chutes De Montmorency had been weaving her wedding dress when her fiancée had been summoned off to war and killed in battle. Driven mad by grief, the

woman donned her wedding dress and jumped off the side of the falls. The legend is that you can still see her ghost on the rocks of the falls under the light of the moon. So that was kind of cool, to visit the site of a ghost story. We took the switchback trail up to the top where we walked across the suspension bridge. The falls are the tallest in Canada apparently, but the don’t look it from the bottom. The perspective is completely different from up above, which is a fancy illusion. There wasn’t much at the top except the bridge so we were soon descending the stairs to the bottom. There’s a lookout platform right near the falls that are covered in water thanks to the mist being carried by the wind. I managed to not get my moccasins very wet and we met a ten week old Siberian husky named Roo. We got back in the truck with Kizmet and drove across the St. Laurent to l’Île d’Orléans, which is the quaintest little island ever. The houses were all adorable and fabulous, save the one which was bright orange. Mum and I loved it. We drove around the whole island, stopping once to eat at a really nice restaurant with a waterfall right behind the patio. The building used to be an old mill and the inside is fantastic, with a double loft and stone walls. We stopped again at a rocky beach on the banks of the river. Kizzy had some fun running around in the water. By around five rain clouds had begun to cover the sky, giving the whole area a little bit of a darker look which made it all feel more beach-y in my opinion. When we got back I read some and then we all headed off to bed, as we were still all tired from the late night the night before, my parents and Isaac especially. Peace out m8s.
