Sonya’s Blog - Day 53 - August 14th - The Canadian War Museum and The By Ward Market
Today started out a little slow due to our late night last night. We decided to hang out at the campsite for the morning and for lunch and then head to the Canadian War Museum. We got some housekeeping stuff done around the RV and then I took the laptop to a different area of the campground where you can actually get an internet connection. There is still no cell service though. I managed to get my blogs posted and up to date and I helped Isaac get his posted and up to date. We have written them all, it’s just getting them posted that is an issue when we cannot get reliable wifi. Kizmet was excited about having to go to a different location as she got lots of walks back and forth between the campsite and where I had set up to post blogs.
After lunch we headed to the Canadian War Museum. They had a special exhibit on The Gladiators of Rome and then their permanent exhibits cover The Early Wars in Canada up to WWI, WWII and The Cold War Era. They also have a very large area that has many different kinds of Armed Forces Vehicles and Weapons in it, from tanks to anti-aircraft guns, to missiles, to UN Armoured Vehicles. They had hundreds of different vehicles and weapons in this room, it was pretty neat. Time flew by while we were in the museum and we were not able to explore the WWII and Cold War exhibits thoroughly, but they were really well done. In the WWI exhibit area they had trenches built into the walls that you could walk through and they had a walk through area of Pachendale, to give you a very good idea of how horrible that battle would have been to fight with the bogs and the mud. In the WWII exhibits they had smaller areas set up for different areas of the war. So for Italy, they had a set up of housing with soldiers on both sides of the walls, since in the one Italian town much of the battles were fought this way. They also had a great D-Day set up, where it was like you were on one of the boats that was approaching Juno Beach and they played a short video that showed the approach and soldiers in the boat with you. They also had Hitler’s Armoured Mercedes Benz on display. The Cold War display area covered the Korean War as well as other major events that happened over that period and what it was all about. It was a great museum. We spent 3 hours there and we could have easily of spent 3 more hours. When we come back in 2017 we will be going there again.

After the War Museum we headed to the By Ward Market area to find a restaurant to have supper at. We walked around for a good hour and then decided to eat at The Fish Market. There are a ton of restaurants in this area, in fact, it is almost all restaurants. I guess you could eat, if you were so inclined, breakfast, lunch and supper in that area for 3 months and never have to visit the same restaurant twice. We all enjoyed our meals and then we headed back to the RV and called it a night.
