Sonya’s Blog - Day 50 - August 11th - Driving to Cantley, Quebec
We thought we had a 2 hour drive ahead of us, but when I mapped it this morning it turned out to be just about 5 hours. Ottawa/Gatineau is much farther than we thought it was! The drive went quite well to start off with, it was all expressways. It was crazy busy though and it was good to finally get out of the Toronto area and all the heavy traffic. After that it was just stopping for gas and short breaks. Things got stressful when we entered the Ottawa area because our GPS in our truck took us right through Ottawa. Once in Ottawa there were detours, as there is a ton of road and building construction going on, and we pretty much went through downtown Ottawa and then downtown Gatineau. We had a very low bridge to go under, but luckily our RV made it. To top off all this excitement it was rush hour and the roads were very busy. It was not an enjoyable experience.
We finally found our campground, which is in Cantley, not Gatineau. Cantley is in Quebec about 10 to 15 more minutes up the road from Gatineau. It is just a tiny little place, but we finally found our campground and it is beautiful. We have a lovely campsite at the very end of the campground with wetland all along the side and behind us. It is so peaceful and quiet which is nice after the Brampton Campground (we didn’t have barking dogs after our move in Brampton, but there were major highways near us and train tracks, so it was still noisy). We had a bit of fun getting our rig in, but once we were in, set up was a breeze. Our campground is level and that always makes things much easier.

Isaac and Natasha took Kizmet for a walk around and to check out the campground while we were setting up and getting supper started. Isaac came back amazed at how many people were speaking french, I did remind him that we are in Quebec now, but he is still surprised. He may think that we have him in French Immersion as a means of torture, not because a large population of this country actually speaks french. Well, welcome to Quebec! It will be great for them to hear it so much and be forced to speak it. I will have to have my young translators on hand a lot, because I can understand it a little, but cannot speak it very well.
After supper I continued to read Ready Player One and everyone else did their own thing. Blake did the dishes, so he got the best job that night:)
Tomorrow we explore the Ottawa area.
