Sonya’s Blog - Day 44 - August 5th - Brampton and The Jays

We did not have a good sleep, one of the neighbours with the barking dogs left their dogs tied up outside all night. The dog was pretty good until 4 AM when he/she just started going ballistic and barking up a storm. Woke us up, woke our kids up, I am sure woke up half the campground. Blake got ticked off after awhile because nobody was quieting the dog down and went outside to record the barking so that we could complain. I love dogs, but I don’t want to be awoken by barking dogs and have neighbours that don’t take responsibility for their dogs barking. Needless to say none of us had a good sleep and we woke up pretty grumpy. As soon as we stepped out of our RV in the morning, the dog across the way started up barking again. After breakfast Blake went to the office to ask about moving because we cannot camp next to that all week and still be civil to other people.

We were actually going to move to another campground because we were told this one had nothing else available. Plus, we don’t really like this campground. The nearest campground that we could find is another 40 minutes away, which takes us quite far from Toronto’s downtown. However, when Blake went in the office demanding a refund they miraculously had a campsite that “just” became available and also had sewage. This campsite was also on the other side of the campground with the regular campers, not as many full-timers. Blake went to check it out, while the campsite was much smaller it was a better set-up and much quieter. Now we had to move campsites though, which is a massive pain in the butt. We packed everything up and moved across the campground. The new campsite was much tricker to get into, our rig is quite long. It was a very tight area to maneuver in because the pool is right across from our campsite and is fenced. There were also more trees and bushes and just more obstacles to clear. It took us quite awhile to get in the site and then in the right spot so that we could hook everything up properly. By the time everything was said and done is was past noon and there was no way we were going to tour around Toronto, make it back to our campsite for Kizmet and then make the Blue Jays game.

We hung out at the campsite for a bit and then headed to the closest mall. I had managed to get haircuts booked for Natasha and I. Isaac was in desperate need of new pants because he keeps growing and he also needed a haircut. Off we went. Isaac is right in between kids sizes and adult sizes and it is very difficult to find him pants that fit in the waist and have the right length for him. Aeropostal and American Eagle carry a size 26 waist, but only with a 28 length and Isaac needs a 30 length. So we had to go up to a 28 waist to get the 30 in the length, but then he can only wear the skinny jeans and they don’t look like skinny jeans on him. Good times! We found a couple of pairs that work, which is better than no pairs. Natasha was also shopping around and she found some new clothes as well. We got our haircuts and then headed back to the RV.

We had an hour to get downtown to the game and we headed off to find the subway station. Traffic was brutal, so we tried turning off and heading to a different subway station. Things did not go so well and when we finally found the station, we could not find the parking. There was a ton of construction, so perhaps the parking lot is under construction, I do not know. We continued to drive and we ended up driving all the way, but we did not take the fastest route. We found parking right away, only a few blocks from The Rogers Centre, so that was our only lucky break in that whole drive. The game had started just after 7 and we got there just before 8, however the first inning had taken a really long time and they were still in second inning when we took our seats.

Natasha and I with our new haircuts at the Jays game:

The Jays were down by 2 or 3 runs, I can’t remember. The Jays came up to bat and had a good inning. They had bases loaded when Bautista came up to bat, and with a full count he hit a grand slam home run! Isaac was so excited because there was a grand slam home run at the last baseball game he went to (in Seattle). That was pretty exciting and the fans were in a great mood after that. The Jays also scored another home run a little later, but the Twins kept the game interesting and rallied back. They almost tied it up in the 9th, but the Jays held on and took the win. It was pretty exciting and the weather was really nice so the skydome was open.

At the end of the game:

The game was quite long, so it was around 11 when we finally got back to our truck and headed back to the campsite. Traffic was brutal, but as soon as we got on the expressway and a little ways out of the centre, things moved along pretty nicely and we were back at the campsite by 11:30 or so. Blake and I walked Kizmet around while the kids got ready for bed and then we all hit the sack.
