Sonya’s Blog - Day 38 - July 30th - Driving to Owen Sound
Well, much to Blake’s chagrin I set my alarm for 5:30 AM this morning. We got to bed quite early and with a 10 hour drive ahead of us tomorrow I wanted a pretty early start. We got up and decided to go to Tim Horton’s to get drinks and breakfast instead of making anything, because we can go to Tim’s again. We packed up a little before going to get breakfast and brought in one slide. When we came back at 6:50, I got the kids up and in the truck. We brought in the rest of the slides and hooked up the trailer and were on the road by 7:10. Works for me. It is a very pretty highway, going along the edge of Lake Huron with fantastic rock formations. We stopped for gas at 10 and, shockingly, there was another Tim’s, so we fuelled up on coffee and tea again. There is a ferry to Owen Sound, but we are taking the long way around. We are not sure if the ferry will take our RV and also it tends to be very expensive to take your RV on a ferry. We priced out the ferry across Lake Michigan with our RV and it was going to by about $300 to take our RV on. I think we will just drive the extra distance, thanks all the same.
On the way to Owen Sound:

We stopped in Parry Sound for lunch, the home of Bobby Orr. They have a museum dedicated to Bobby Orr, but we still have 3 hours ahead of us, so we didn’t go in.

Parry Sound was really nice, super busy though. We walked around and then headed back to the RV and had lunch. We headed back on the road, but still needed to get gas. The gas stations in Parry Sound were too small so we needed to get back to the highway. When we were trying to get into the parking lot, it was a tight corner and I turned around to see if the trailer was going to be okay. Well our outdoor kitchen was wide open and the stove was hanging off the edge. We stopped immediately and held up traffic to get it closed up again. Isaac had closed up the outdoor kitchen after lunch and did not latch the sides. We were lucky we didn’t rip the door off or lose our stove. We finally got to a gas station and it had a little Farmer’s Market Stand and an ice cream store. I headed over to the Farmer’s Market and the kids headed to the ice cream store.
We have turned off the main highway and it is much more slow going now. Lots of towns and much busier with traffic and quite a bit of construction.
We made it to our campsite and got checked in no problem. We had some troubles with our hitch again and decided we would have it looked at to see if anything is wrong with it, or is it just what we are doing. We have to get this thing figured out, it is driving us crazy.
We got all set up and then had some supper. By then it was pretty late and we all got ready for bed.
