Sonya’s Blog - Day 16 - July 8 - Exploring St. Louis in the Rain

Today, we wanted to get out by 9 so we could catch the 9 am trolley tour. We wanted to take it as our first thing to do because they tell you call sorts of great things to do and great restaurants. We also wanted to drop Kizmet off at Doggy Daycare to see if she liked it. Plus it was pouring rain so we wanted her to get some exercise. Well we didn't leave me until 9:15 and Kizzy drop off took a little longer than expected. Plus, they are doing all sorts of construction and the exit we were supposed to take was closed and so were the next 4 exits or so. As a result, we saw the Trolley Tour bus leaving the parking lot right before we got there. We decided to head to the Science Center, admission is free and it was still raining. It is a nice SC, but was packed due to the rain, probably. We stayed for an hour then headed back to catch the noon Trolley Tour.

The tour was really good, the guy was funny. There is a ton of stuff to do for free in St. Louis. It has the most stuff to do for free, except for Washington DC. The Science Center, Zoo, Art Museum, History Museum, Federal Reserve, and a whole bunch of other stuff is free. We have enough activities to fill up our few days, and then some.

We headed over to City Museum to check it out because it looked like a neat place to go. However, it was packed so we will try that tomorrow morning. It looks fantastic. Very hands on, it is in an old shoe factory in the Garment District. St. Louis produced 30% of the garments for the USA before all those jobs were shipped overseas.

After the tour we headed up to Washington street to Park Avenue Coffee to enjoy butter cake and a coffee. They have 76 flavours or so, it is the place to go. The cake was so sweet and gooey, too sweet for me. I mean I ate it, but I am not dying to try it again.

We decided to find the Federal Reserve Building and take that tour and we planned out the rest of our days. Blake had looked up where the Federal Reserve was and then his phone died. Off we went. Well we took a small detour to look at City Hall. This is a very old building, that looks kind of wrecked. It turns out they wanted to clean the outside of the building a few years ago, it has a lot of black due to pollution. They tried pressure washing, but the building is Sandstone so it didn't go well.

We walked another block and realized we were not in the right area. So we backtracked a bit and headed in the right direction. We went through City Park, which was a pretty area with various sculptures, gardens, fountains and sitting areas. It even had a large TV in an outdoor theatre type setting playing an old Disney reel. It was 2 blocks long and very unique. We enjoyed it, but then still could not find the Federal Reserve. We finally found it after many wrong turns. Well, we were too late as tours end at 3 and we got there at 4:30! Ha;). Well, Blake went and asked them if we need picture ID and it turns out we do so we will bring that tomorrow. Gotta do a background check on all of us.

So we decided to go get Kizmet and call it a day. It had not rained on us for all of our walking around so that was good, was still super foggy and cloudy though. Kizmet found a friend she stuck with all day, Franklin. Franklin hasn't found a good buddy since his last girl left, so he showed Kizmet the ropes and they were best pals. Kizmet came home, drank a bowl of water, ate her food and fell asleep!

It started raining again not long after we picked up Kizmet and has not stopped. We decided to stay at the RV, have supper, watch a show and just hang out.
