Sonya’s Blog - Day 15 - July 7 - Driving to St. Louis
Well we survived the storm last night, it rained a lot where we were, but nothing like in Kansas City. I looked up the weather conditions again this morning and the flash flood zone has moved to the St. Louis area. So I looked up conditions there and whether our campground was near a creak, river or stream. It is not, so that is good. The highways are clear so we will drive out and hope for the best. We decided to do some cleaning and maintenance around the RV this morning and not head out early since the main thunderstorm was supposed to be around 11 to 1 in St. Louis. Blake got all the water filters set up in the RV, so hopefully we will have better tasting water from here on in. The water has been really hard and at times bleachy tasting, yucky! Bathrooms were cleaned and Natasha did the vacuuming, she did a crappy job and told me I was too fussy about it. She vacuumed their room and when I went in there was still Kizzy hair on the carpet - I sent her back in to do it properly. She picked up the Kizzy hair and shoved it in my face, “ohh, it’s soooo messy, who can stand it” - that girl really needs to raise her cleaning standards! Of course, she thinks I need to chill out and lower mine:)
I started out driving when we finally got on the road. The turn off to Route 66 was right after Columbia, MO, but I wasn’t sure where and it is not called Route 66 anymore. I thought there would be a sign for historic route 66, but I had asked Blake at 95 miles, 60 miles and 30 miles prior to Columbia to look up the route and make sure that we were okay to tow down it and where we exited. Well Columbia came and went, I never saw a sign for Route 66 so I turned off at Kingdom to get gas. We missed the turn off! Blake was too busy playing his game and blogging (finally!) to help me out. So we are taking the I-70 the whole way, ahh well. The rain hasn’t been so bad, just a light rain not a torrential downpour. It is supposed to rain today and tomorrow and then get super hot again.

St. Louis is where the Mississippi and the Missouri Rivers converge, plus a whole bunch of other smaller tribuaries. This is the mighty Mississippi!
It started really coming down right before we found our campground. This campground is just off route 66 and only 20 minutes from downtown St. Louis. We did hit some rush hour traffic coming in, but we just took it slow and made it fine. It was the owner’s 80th birthday and we were invited over for cake and ice cream. I had just started supper, but the kids were excited, so we went over to wish him Happy Birthday and have our dessert before supper. Blake then went off to the grocery store while I went to finish up supper. I had promised Isaac I would make fudge with him because he has been going on and on about getting it as they sell it everywhere down here. He was all about buying a pound so you could get a 1/2 pound free, but I said it was too much fudge and that it was really easy to make. Well, Isaac doesn’t let go of stuff too well and he has been talking about making it since I uttered those fateful words. Blake was taking forever at the store so I told Isaac we could start on the fudge, because it really is not that hard to make and is like 4 ingredients or something. Cooking with Isaac is always an adventure as he doesn’t follow instructions well and he lacks focus, the smallest thing can grab his attention. I made him do most of it, just helped him with some of the measuring and the cooking. We just made a chocolate fudge and he stirred some Reices Pieces into 1/2 of it. It was pretty late by the time we were done and I told him it wouldn’t be set before tomorrow and he had already had dessert, so off to bed for little boys. Well we watched an episode of Corner Gas first.
Blake was busy making more improvements to the RV and I made lunch for tomorrow and did the dishes. Off to check out St. Louis tomorrow.
Later,
Sonya
