A Tragic Tale Of Torrential Downpours

Unfortunately, we left late again today, but that was solely because of some sewagey things that needed to be done. Gross, but necessary and all done by my one and only father. Fun fun. We went to Crown Centre today, one of the places we passed on our tour. We then blew ninety bucks on entry tickets to the LEGOLAND Discovery Centre and the Sealife Aquarium. Dad, Isaac and I went into both for a couple of hours and Mum and Kizzy walked around downtown in the gross and disgusting muggyness that comes before a storm. LEGOLAND was all right, but kind of little kiddish. They had a really cool Star Wars display though, with a huge model of the Death Star and life sized replicas of R2D2 and C-3P0. The Sealife was a typical aquarium, but they had awesome seahorse and ray tanks. Seahorses are adorable. There were a few sharks and turtles as well. It was 3:30pm by the time we all met up again and Mum was very grumpy by this point, because none of us had eaten lunch. Mum stayed with Kizzy again and the rest of us head across the street to the Crayola Cafe for some food. I got Chinese, Mum and Isaac got barbecue (Isaac’s was hugely massive) and Dad opted to steal from all of us. When we’d finished, the wind had really picked up, blowing the storm in and the muggy air out. I wanted to check out the Country Club Plaza, a shopping district the architect had modelled after Seville, Spain. We had scarcely started driving when the thunder started really going and the rain began as a light drizzle. We parked on a side street in the Plaza and went to check out the famed fountain, which, as it turns out, had been moved from an estate in New York during the depression. When

we turned back to go deeper into the district, the rain was coming down harder but I said we should at least check out one block. We hadn’t even made it that far when the downpour became torrential and flood sirens started to go off. It then became a mad dash back to the car. We all looked like we’d gone swimming in our clothes by this point. It was awesome, so of course, Isaac was terrified. The drive home was kind of dangerous for the first bit though. There were literal waterfalls coming down off overpasses, but that’s just a normal thing in the city of Kansas where tornado warnings come often. Kind of a change from Calgary. We holed up for the night, snacking and watching Corner Gas. I talked to some friends for a bit and read. The night was uneventful, but it rained almost the whole time. It was actually pouring so hard, you couldn’t hear the thunder over the sound of drops on the roof. It was kind of a relief not to have a panting, shaking dog. Peace out m8s.
